PRELUDE & QUIET MEDITATION  [Congregational Responses are in BOLD]

Our God is Sovereign over all of God’s creation.

GATHERING AROUND THE WORD

PRELUDE

"Prelude in B Minor"

--  Cesar Franck

GREETING & ANNOUNCEMENTS

PASSING THE PEACE OF CHRIST  [Congregational Responses are in BOLD]

The Peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Let us extend the right hand of Christian fellowship to our neighbors.

*HYMN #150

"Come, Christian, Join to Sing"

*CALL TO WORSHIP  [Psalm 99:1-3]

The Lord is Sovereign; let the people tremble;

The Lord is enthroned upon the cherubim; let the people shake.

The Lord is great in Zion and is high above all peoples.

Let us confess the Name of the Lord which is great and awesome;

Let us worship our God.

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Merciful God, you made us in your image, with a mind to know you, a heart to love you, and a will to serve you.  But our knowledge is imperfect, our love inconstant, and our obedience incomplete.  Day by day we fail to grow into your likeness; yet you are slow to be angry with your children.  For the sake of Jesus Christ, your Son, our Savior, do not hold our sins against us, but in your tender love, forgive us through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

[Followed by a moment of silent prayer.]

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

The Lord said to Moses:  “There is a place near me where you may stand upon a rock.  When my glory passes by, I’ll put you in a cleft in the rock.  I will cover you with my hand until I have passed by.”

Beloved ones, God has shielded us, covered our sin with the hand of protection, as we hide ourselves in Christ Jesus, the rock of our salvation.  I declare to you in the Name of Jesus Christ your sins are forgiven.

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.  Let us forgive one another.  Amen.

RESPONDING TO THE WORD

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH  [“The Apostles' Creed“]

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.  I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.  On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen.

HYMN  #170

"The Lord's My Shepherd, I'll Not Want"

PASTORAL PRAYER

OUR LORD’S PRAYER  [Matthew 6:9-13]

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our  debtors;  and  lead  us not into temptation,  but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.  Amen.
