Preparatory Thoughts

"What better way to live in the grip of a promise?  To wake in the possibility

that today might be the day.  To remain wide awake all day long,

noticing everything ... To take nothing for granted.  Or to take everything

for granted, though not yet grasped.  To handle every moment of one's

life as a seed of the promise and to plant it tenderly, never knowing

if this moment, or the next, may be the one that grows."

~  Barbara Brown Taylor.

*Call to Worship

Leader:  ... God is beyond strength or weakness.

People:  God's depth beyond all knowledge.

Leader:  Rather we, in our weakness, receive life from God,

People:  and to those with no power, God gives strength.

All:  Faithful One, before we can even imagine or ask, You are

there, extended.  Life our eyes, and draw us to Yourself.

Refresh us with Your delicate Promises, for Your Word is

spirit and life.  Amen.

*Hymn

*Prayer of The Day

Leader: In the forsaken places of our lives,

People:  at times when we travel unfamiliar paths,

Leader:  when our barrenness consumes us,

People: Lord, Your Word is spirit and life.

Leader:  At times when our own self-doubt demands proof,

People:  when we struggle to avoid the way that is narrow,

Leader:  when our confidence falters,

People:  Lord,Your Word is spirit and life.  Faithful One, before we

can even imagine or ask, You are there, extended.  Life our

eyes, draw us to Yourself, and refresh us with your Covenant

Promises, for Your Word is spirit and life.  Amen.

*Words of Encouragement

Leader:  Hear these Words of God who has Created all life ...

People:  Thus says God, the LORD, the One who Created

the heavens and stretched them ...

Leader:  I Am God.  I have called you in right relationship.

People:  I walk with you hand in hand, and hold you as My own.

Leader:  I have given you as My love to peoples.

People:  A light to all the nations, to open the eyes of the blind,

to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, and to bring

from their prison those who sit in darkness.

Leader:  "I Am God, that is My Name; My Glory is beyond all others.

People:  "Do not seek any accomplishment, any pride,

any product, or pursuit above Me.

Leader:  But dwell in Me, and everything else shall fall away."

People:  For I call forth new life.  I point you to the new life

even before it springs forth.

*We Sing Our Praise

(Sing 2 times)

Surely it is God Who saves us;

We will trust in God and not be afraid,
It is God Who is our stronghold and our sure defense,

And God will be our Savior.

*Extending the Hand of Fellowship

Leader:  The Peace of Christ be with you.

People:  And also with you.

The Food Pantry Items for March 2008

Food supplies and varieties vary from week to week.

Suggestions: Any foods that require only water to prepare, such as:

pancake mix, grits, hot cocoa, soup, etc.

They also need: peanut butter, canned spaghetti with sauce, and

cans of salmon.  These are good for both Seniors and Families.

Any, and all, contributions are welcome.

Please bring your items any time during the month,

and put them in the grocery cart at Reid Church.

The second Sunday of each month we dedicate our Food Pantry items

from the previous month's collection.

Reminder:  Cash donations are particularly important to this program,

as well as your donated items.

Please make your check out to Reid Church with a memo "For Food Pantry",

and then you can put it in the offering plate.

Marcy Shook, Church Treasurer, will see that it is sent to the Food Pantry.

Note:  The numbers the Food Pantry serves daily

is what they served in one month in 1989.

* Sanctuary Flowers for the glory of God
