PRELUDE & QUIET MEDITATION

How do we respond to God's Good News in our lives.  We can flee like

Jonah or accept like Peter and Andrew, the choice is ours to make.

GATHERING AROUND THE WORD

Prelude

" Adagio in A Flat from 1st Sonata"

-- Felix Mendelssohn

Joan Martin, Organist

GREETING & ANNOUNCEMENTS

(Please sign the Attendance Pads as they are passed.  Thank you.)

*PASSING THE PEACE OF CHRIST

Leader:  The Peace of Christ be with you.

People:  And also with you.

Leader:  Let us extend the right hand of Christian fellowship to our neighbors.

*HYMN

 #477

"Ye Servants of God, Your Master Proclaim"

CALL TO WORSHIP

(Psalm 62:5-12 )

Leader:    For God alone my soul waits in silence, for my hope is from him.

People:   He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall

                  not be shaken.

Leader:    On God rests my deliverance and my honor; my mighty rock,

                  my refuge is in God.

People:   Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out  your heart

before him; God is a refuge for us.

Leader:    Those of low estate are but a breath, those of high estate are a

delusion; in the balances they go up; they are together lighter

                  than a breath.

People:   Put no confidence in extortion, and set no vain hopes on

robbery; if riches increase, do not set your heart on them.

Leader:    Once God has spoken; twice have I heart this:  that power belongs

to God, and steadfast love belongs to  you,

People:   O Lord.  For you repay to all according to their work.

All:            Let us worship our God.

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

(in unison)

Our desire is to do your will, O God; your law is in our hearts.

But, when misfortunes beyond counting press from all sides,

and iniquities overtake us, our sight fails when we are tempted

by the vain promises of a life full of ease, our courage forsakes

us and we submit to their charm.  When enemies overpower us

and mock our faith, we shrink back in disgrace and abandon

what Christ taught.  O God, we are poor and in need.  You are

our help and salvation.  Come to our aid, and make no delay.

Amen.

(Followed by a moment of silent prayer.)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Leader: This saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that

Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.  He himself

bore our sin on his body upon the cross, that we

might be dead to sin and alive to all that is good.  I

declare to you in the name of Jesus Christ you are

forgiven.

People:  In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.
Let us forgive one another.   Amen.
