PRELUDE & QUIET MEDITATION

As Christians we are not promised that life is just a bed of roses,

But, we are promised that through Christ our morning can be turned

into dancing.

*PASSING THE PEACE OF CHRIST

Leader:  The Peace of Christ be with you.

People:  And also with you.

Leader:  Let us extend the right hand of Christian fellowship to our neighbors.

CALL TO WORSHIP

(Psalm 30)

Leader:   I will extol you, O LORD, for  you have drawn me up, and did

not let my foes rejoice over me.

People: O LORD my God, I cried to you for help, and you have

                healed me.

Leader:   O LORD, you brought up my soul from Sheol, restored me

to life from among those gone down to the Pit.

People: Sing praises to the LORD, O you his faithful ones, and

give thanks to his holy name.

Leader:   For his anger is but for a moment; his favor is for a lifetime.

Weeping may linger for the night, but joys comes in the morning.

People: As for me, I said in my prosperity, "I shall never be moved."

Leader:  By your favor, O LORD, you had established me as a strong

mountain; you hid your face; I was dismayed.

People:  To you, O LORD, I cried, and to the LORD I made supplication:

Leader:  "What profit I there is my death, if I go down to the Pit?  Will the dust

praise you?  Will it tell of your faithfulness?

People:  Hear, O LORD, and be gracious to me!  O LORD, be my helper!"

You have turned my mourning into dancing; you have taken

off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, so that my soul may

praise you and not be silent.  O LORD my God, I will give thanks

                 to you forever.

All:          Let us worship our God.

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

(in unison)

God of compassion, have mercy upon us.  You have given us your statutes,

but we follow our own desires.  We know of your laws, yet we try to justify

our own way.  You desire obedience, we practice rebellion.  You offer us

blessing, we search for scapegoats.  Make us mindful of how we disorder

your intentions.  Set us right in accordance with your will.  Amen.

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Leader:  The mercy of the Lord is everlasting to everlasting.  I declare to you, in the

name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.  May the God of mercy, who

forgives you all your sins, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the

power of the Holy Spirit give you eternal life.

People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.  Let us forgive one another.   Amen.
