Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church

August 1, 2010                            18th Sunday In Ordinary Time                              10:00 a.m.

The Sacrament Of Holy Communion

______________________________________________________________________________________________

Please greet new and old friends as you arrive for Worship.

Then, listening quietly to the Prelude, prepare yourself

for Worship with a time of silent prayer, and meditation.

PREPARATORY THOUGHTS

Jesus' parable of the poor farmer and the rich fool reminds us of the pit

falls with our preoccupation of possessions and wealth.  It also pints

out the foolishness of our self-deceiving belief that we are all in control,

not needing anyone including God.

GATHERING AROUND THE WORD

Prelude

"Great Is Thy Faithfulness"

-- arr.  Douglas E. Wagner

Joan Martin, Organist

GREETING & ANNOUNCEMENTS

(Please sign the Attendance Pads as they are passed.  Thank you.)

*PASSING THE PEACE OF CHRIST

Leader:  The Peace of Christ be with you.

People:  And also with you.

Leader:  Let us extend the right hand of Christian fellowship to our neighbors.

*Hymn

"Come, Thou Almighty King"

  (royal blue)  #139

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:  Give thanks to the Lord, who is good,

People: For His steadfast love endures forever,

Leader:  Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,

People:  And gathered in from the lands, from east and from the

west, and from the north, and from the south,

Leader: For He satisfies the thirsty and the hungry He wills with good things.

All:  Let us worship our God.

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

(in unison)

Gracious God in the company of Your people, we confess our sins

to You.  We have been angry and impatient, complaining about the

faults of others, and failing to see our own.  We have been lazy

and selfish neglecting the interests of others, and pursuing our

own.  We have been faithless and unworthy, ignoring the strength

You offer and relying upon our own.  God of mercy, You have

promised those who truly repent will be received into You

presence.  Help us to accept Your forgiveness, and dwell in us by

Your Holy Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

 Amen.

(Followed by a moment of silent prayer.)

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Leader: This saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ

Jesus came into the world to save sinners.  He took our sins

upon His body on the cross so that we may be dead to sin

and alive to all that is good.  I declare to you in the Name of

Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.

People:  In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.
Let us forgive one another.   Amen.

THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION

Invitation to the Lord's Table.

The Great Prayer of Thanksgiving.

Leader:  The Lord be with you.

People:  And also with you.

Leader:  Lift up your hearts.

People:  We lift them up to the Lord.

Leader:  Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

People:  It is right to give thanks and praise.

Leader:  It is truly right and our greatest joy to give You

thanks and  praise, ...

Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with

angels and archangels and with all the faithful of every

time and place, who forever sing to the glory of your Name:

People:  Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might,

heaven and earth are full of Your glory.  Hosanna in the

highest.  Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the

Lord.  Hosanna in the highest.

Leader:  Accept this, our

sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving as a living and

holy offering of ourselves, that our lives may proclaim

the One crucified and Risen.   Great is the mystery of faith:

In Unison:  Christ has died, Christ has Risen, Christ will come again.

The Lord's Prayer (debts and debtors).

Braking of the Bread.

Communion of the people.

Prayer After Communion

(In Unison)

In unison with Your church in heaven and on earth, we pray, O God,

that You will fulfill Your eternal purpose in us and in the world.

Keep us faithful in Your service until Christ comes in final victory,

and we shall feast with all the saints in the joy of Your eternal Kingdom.

Amen.
