Please greet new and old friends as you arrive for Worship.
Then, listening quietly to the Prelude, prepare yourself
for Worship with a time of silent prayer, and meditation.
Preparatory Thoughts
"What better way to live in the grip of a promise? To wake in the possibility
that today might be the day. To remain wide awake all daylong,
noticing everything ... To take nothing for granted. Or to take everything
for granted, though not yet grasped. To handle every moment of one's
life as a seed of the promise and to plant it tenderly, never knowing
if this moment, or the next, may be the one that grows."
~ Barbara Brown Taylor.
Gathering As God's People
Prelude
"This Is My Father's World"
-- arr. Diane Bish
Greetings and Announcements
Liturgist
Cathy Haley
*Gathering Music
"As We Gather in This Place"
(pale blue) #1 (Sing Twice)
Leader: We look to You our Father for what we can become,
rather than what we are, by our sin.
People: You have molded us in the first place and can,
even now, remold us in Your Image.
Leader: Replace the hate, mistrust and sorrow in our lives with the deep
wells of love, joy, and trust only You can give us.
People: Gently rework us here in this place.
All: We come now to worship You for all You have given us,
and all we can become. Let us worship God.
*Hymn
"This Is My Father's World"
(royal blue ) #293 (vs. 1, 2)
*Prayer of The Day
(in unison)
Father God, we have a communication problem -- with You. For
reasons we cannot adequately explain, we have lost touch. We have
failed to remove those obstacles which obstruct Your Presence.
First, there is impatience, which acts quickly out of a fear to face
the real us, and our potential for maturity.
Next, there are those last minute compromises, which we think
suggest that You do not really listen until the evenings,
when You are resting.
Then come the ghosts of guilt, who constantly
remind us that we are not one hundred percent forgiven.
Father, this also leaves us with our inability -- our fear to face the
issue of others suffering -- and our apathy to do anything about it.
As You speak to us in the language of love and forgiveness, remind us of
the possibilities of prayer. You have so many gifts to share with us.
Help us to take the time to discover them. Amen.
*Words of Encouragement
(in unison)
Leader: You are not in the flesh, you are in the Spirit,
if the Spirit of God really dwells in you.
People: For all who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
Leader: If the Spirit of God dwells in you, God who raised Christ Jesus
from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies.
People: For all who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
Leader: If by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
People: For all who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
Leader: We are God's heirs, and heirs with Christ, provided we share His
suffering now in order to share His splendor hereafter.
People: For all who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
*We Sing Our Praise
(Sing 2 times)
Surely it is God Who saves us;
We will trust in God and not be afraid,
It is God Who is our stronghold and our sure defense,
And God will be our Savior.
*Extending the Hand of Fellowship
Leader: The Peace of Christ be with you.
People: And also with you.
